Vladimir Makovsky - the son of the famous art critic and founder of the School of Painting and Architecture E.I. Makovsky - from birth was connected with the world of beauty. Nurtured in an atmosphere of creativity, from a young age he chose the path of the artist. Working hard and fruitfully, Vladimir Egorovich devoted his works to the life of a “little man”. In addition, the master was strictly faithful to the vision of art exclusively from the point of view of the truthfulness and sincerity of the world.
Among the simple everyday scenes based on which this ideology is especially clearly visible, the painting "Girl with geese in the field." Written in 1875, it is part of an extensive series of works devoted to the life of peasant children. Many of Makovsky’s works in their everyday life and everyday life reveal the beauty of unique moments, embodying the liveliness and lyricism of all life.
The plot and composition are extremely simple. However, the master manages to convey his reverent and tender attitude to the model and emphasize the individuality of an ordinary peasant girl. A young cowgirl, who came out early in the morning to graze geese, gracefully steps barefoot on the grass. Makovsky painted the girl’s face with particular care, emphasizing the dreamy, distant look with sly sparks and highlighting red lips. The natural beauty and cheerful disposition of the young heroine is accompanied by a colorful sundress and beads shining in the sun. A pile of raven-colored hair was removed behind and decorated with flower wreaths, the rest with a large multi-colored armful hardly fit in the apron.
The geese accompanying the girl obediently follow her. Curiously, the large white-black goose in front bent to the ground and, apparently, hisses, sensing danger. But his brothers are lazily striding behind, and the whole situation exudes serenity and tranquility. And yet endless and artless, but all the more attractive in its splendor is the expanse of green meadows with a scattering of snow-white flowers and crystal blue sky ... Charm and elegance are wrapped in the morning silence of a small village scene.
