The artist became one of the masters who prepared the rise of the Russian still life in painting, and he worked quite actively in this genre. His canvases reflected a life-affirming attitude towards life. His still life is characterized by an unprecedented hitherto spectacular and sweeping stroke, combined with the classic layout. Behind the ease and liberation of writing lies the fruitful intelligibility of objects.

In a still life, the painter paints with wide strokes of color on top of a certain dark background, exposing the color accent to yellow, green and brown. Silver fish scales shimmer with a bluish-green and pinkish tint. Bottle glass plays a lilac, red, yellow, gray shine. The author draws attention to the importance of the coloristic unity of the whole picture.

Like the old masters, the painter highlights the semantic center of the composition with light and colored spots on a dark background. Akin to jewels, flickering fish shining with multicolor mother-of-pearl, golden apples refresh the canvas, pomegranate reflections sparkle the wine in the bottle.

This still life impressively combines the full objectivity of form and the demonstrative decorativeness of color. The variegation and brightness of the canvas resembles a luxurious carpet, which includes all shades of the spectrum. The canvas is one of the so-called Korovinian night still lifes brilliant in color abundance. Masters were fascinated by the bizarre beauty of artificial light, which sharpened the picturesque play of color. The leading content of the still life is the dramatic interaction of light with color.

The play of light on the cold glossy surface of the fish is emphasized by the warmth of the color of the fruit, and in the depths of the bottle of wine it burns like a gem. Deepened inside things, light merges with color, creating a general impression. Capacitive careless brush strokes brush Korovin reinforce the value of paints, their spirituality.
