The painting by the outstanding master of landscape painting, A. Savrasov, was painted in 1893 and belongs to the undoubted masterpieces of Russian fine art of the 19th century. A distinctive feature of the painter’s writing style was the desire for the utmost realism of the depicted.

His canvases amaze with sincerity, reverent love for the world around him. Savrasov does not seek to “color” the canvas in order to please the viewer, to delight him with bright colors or an entertaining plot - he is dear to him and his homeland is unvarnished.

The painting "Spring. Gardens ”fully complies with the artistic principles of the author.

The wattle fence that has collapsed under the snow pressure, several frail trees and low bushes in the lowland are close to the viewer and make up the foreground of the canvas. The snow has not yet melted in a small ravine, but the oncoming heat has already formed small pools of melt water on the surface.

On the hill, the snow completely disappeared, and the moist earth greedily substitutes the drying fields for the first spring winds. The upcoming warming rejoices in domestic animals - several chickens busily dig in the thawed land on the slopes of a gentle ravine, intending to profit from the first spring prey.

In the central part of the canvas, in the distance, the artist depicted a peasant's yard. From the house, lonely standing in the middle of an empty space, only the roof is visible. A thin haze comes from the chimney - apparently, the supply of firewood has ended and the inhabitants have to warm the house than necessary. There is a forest belt near the dwelling - with such a landing, the peasants protected the crops from the winds.

At a distance, you can see a small structure, similar to a small church or bell tower, of which many were scattered across the immense Russian expanses.

In the upper part of the canvas, the sky is covered with thick gray clouds that are densely hanging over the earth, however, in the distance, along their edge the first spring rays of the sun shyly break through. The upcoming renewal of all living things is already close, darkness and cold are retreating, nature is waking up from hibernation. Soon the long-awaited warmth will come and life will shine again with bright colors.

Showing with his landscape an uninhabited large space, Savrasov with his painting emphasized the immensity of the native Russian open spaces, their free breadth and vastness.

The original picture can be seen in the State Art Gallery of Perm.
